What is the remuneration for the Global Choices student in Mauritius?

Due to visa regulations, you are not supposed to engage in gainful activities. Our experience is that companies tend to pay a stipend to reimburse housing costs, travel expenses & lunch, however, this cannot be guaranteed since it is up to the individual company & company policy. Global Choices always aims to get the best deal for its students.

What are the costs involved?

You should take into consideration the following costs: 1. Flight. Your flight will cost between 500 and 1100 euros depending where your fly from and which period of the year. 2. Living Costs. Your monthly costs in Mauritius, including your housing, should normally be between 400 and 500 euros. The cost of living in Mauritius is cheaper than in Europe. Please be aware that we may charge a last minute fee in case we start our work for you less than 2 months before the start of your internship. Please do not leave it too late, also in view of the Residence Permit that you will require.

Where will you live?

Most accommodations are located near the beach. We, currently, have students in Blue Bay in the South, Flic en Flac on the West Coast and Grand Bay in the North of the island. Usually, students share houses and apartments, pictures of which will be found in our photo book. Rooms in shared accommodation cost around 200 euros per month, individual studios around 300 euros per month. Water, electricity, internet and gas bills are, usually, paid by the tenants each month at an expense of around 25 euros per person per month.

Why choose Mauritius?

1. English and French are widely spoken. Most students are fluent in English & French is an advantage. 2. Natural beauty of the country. It has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. 3. Safe environment. It is probably the safest country in Africa; however we still want you to be cautious. 4. Social and political stability. Mauritius has been a stable Republic since 1992. 5. Multicultural population. You will learn a lot about many different cultures! 6. Education based on British System. 7. Mauritius is an emerging market with a yearly growth of 5%.

How do students move around Mauritius?

We always send a contract car to do the airport pick up, at a fixed cost that will take you to the accommodation. Once in Mauritius, students travel by bus, by rental car or scooter to the companies. Many students are collected by company transport or colleagues, however this cannot be guaranteed.
