Families that invite foreign au-pairs into their home are expected to treat them as they would the son or daughter of a family friend, and to provide them with accommodation, food, pocket money and an opportunity to improve their knowledge of the language of the country. It is an ideal way for au-pairs to learn the language and way of life but it is important for them to try to adapt to the families’ ways of life.

Placement details

Families will provide au-pairs with their own bedroom and make available all the facilities of the home, provide them with all meals and pay them pocket money. They will treat their au-pair as a member of the family and let them participate in family outings if they so wish. They will ensure their au-pair has sufficient free time to attend Spanish classes and help their au-pair find such classes, which are normally available in all towns.

"My duties included assisting servers with serving guests and preparing the restaurant for each shift. My expectations were met and I was not disappointed. Also, I had a lot of fun and enjoyed my position. The best part of my job was meeting a lot of different people from all over the United States. Also, learning new things about the restaurant business. I enjoyed my work atmosphere and all of my co-workers were very nice."
