Volunteering in India
Accommodation and food
Family house
This is the most popular type of accommodation for participants. The locations are mostly in residential areas of the city. You will be staying as a paying guest with the host family. The host family gives you a part of house and provides you with food. The rooms are mostly on twin sharing basis. Families may offer a private room and bathroom but this is not a rule; the candidate may be asked to share the room and or bathroom with another family member.
Food
Indian food is popular due to its exotic flavors and healthful preparation. Most of the Indian host families prepare traditional Indian vegetarian meals at least 5 days a week. Non-vegetarian food is generally prepared on Saturdays and Sundays (if the host family eats it). Generally Indian dishes are well seasoned, mildly spicy and aromatic.
Experience Indian culture
Staying in an Indian household gives you an opportunity to experience and participate in the traditions and rituals followed by the host family. The fairs and festivals celebrated across the length and breadth of the land present a fascinating pageant and showcase the resplendence of its arts and crafts tradition. Some festivals are of religious nature; others are linked with the lives of the people, change of seasons and harvesting.
