Teaching in Brazil is a practical programme where the student will get training in teaching English as a foreign language. This training and work experience scheme is available to undergraduates, graduates and gap year students. Tutors’ primary spoken language must be one of these: English, Spanish, French, German, or Italian.

You will work up to 15 hours, 5-6 days per week. The minimum stay is four weeks, although you may choose to stay for 8-12 weeks. Positions are unpaid, but you will receive your own room and full board for seven days of the week.

For the duration of the placement you will be expected to teach your language to the family and take part in the family’s activities. As long as you’re participating in the program, you must follow all rules as outlined in the orientation provided by the local coordinator. Your job is to coach a member(s) of the family in your native language, establishing a regular class schedule. This schedule will be determined by the host family’s needs.

Accommodation details

For the position of Language Coach, you will be placed with a host family. Brazilian host families tend to take an active interest in their language coach. You can expect family members to be enthusiastic about learning about your culture, country, language, family, friends, etc., and they will always help you feel at home with them and the community.

Living with a family, you will experience a complete immersion into Brazilian way of life. You will have the opportunity to become fluent in the Portuguese language, enjoy the wonderful cuisine and make lifetime friends. As a member of the family you will participate in all family activities, whether you live in a large city or small town.
